Tallboy can from TBS; dated Mar 25 2020 and served slightly chilled. First new Spearhead product I've tried in years, and it starts off with a (minor) gusher - not ideal, but let's keep going.
Pours golden-yellow, hazy and translucent, topped with nearly an inch of soapy, foamy white head. It's reduced to a thin collar within the next few minutes, simultaneously speckling the glass with spotty sea spray lace; looks fine to me. Subtly fruity on the nose - I'm getting light notes of mango, papaya, melon and grapefruit, as well as hints of doughy malt sweetness, grape and vaguely floral hops.
It's a decent hop forward session ale - I'm tasting grainy pale malts and bread sweetness, as well as a fruity blend of hop flavours that include white grapefruit, passion fruit and orange. The flavours drift toward a more pithy, woodsy, piney, almost spicy hop bitterness towards the finish, with this theme carrying on into the aftertaste, alongside a touch of doughiness. Light in body, with middling carbonation levels that briskly agitate the palate, providing a little bit of a crisp bite to this brew's generally smooth mouthfeel. Quite easy to knock back.
Final Grade: 3.78, a B+. Spearhead's 4 Session IPA is a serviceable offering that I have no serious issues with. I'm not a big consumer of session IPAs in the first place, so I don't see myself returning to this particularly often - e.g. I'd take their Hawaiian Pale Ale over this one nine times out of ten, but that's just, like, my opinion, man. If you come across a fresh can and have any interest in lighter, hoppy pale ales, then I'd suggest taking this one out for a spin, so that you can judge its merits for yourself.

Beautiful golden colour with such a fluffy head that I had to wait for it to dissipate a bit before I tasted it. The smell is pure hoppy due to its 4 hop varieties. The taste is similar. More hoppy than malty, but there are 4 malt varieties in there as well. Very tasty and beer-like for a light (4%) beer.
