473 ml can served cold into a beer mug. Canning date is impossible to make out. 9th release from this limited edition series.

Appearance - Relatively clear golden brew with just a bit of haze. A finger and a half of loose white head rests on top.

Smell - Plenty of wheat and a fair amount of overly sweet pineapple.

Taste - Clean and quite grainy. Little elements of pineapple mixed in, but generally just a solid grainy pilsner. Medium bitterness.

Mouthfeel - Finishes pretty dry, medium bodied with plenty of carbonation works pretty well for a pilsner.

Overall - Pretty solid brew, no complaints, and while I don't think the pineapple really adds much flavor-wise, it is a point of differentiation and the nose is sufficiently different to be enjoyed by a wider audience. Good brew.

Pours a clear gold with a lively head with short retention and minimal lacing. Aroma is grainy malts and notes of grass and pineapple. Taste is grainy malts, corn and very subtle pineapple. Medium bitterness. Decent Pilsner.

Tallboy can from the LCBO; dated 21/XX/2023 (the month is illegible) and served slightly chilled.

This beer exploded with foam as soon as I cracked it open, which is not uncommon for Spearhead products, at least in my experience. It pours a foggy golden colour with fine sediment visible within the liquid; its initially robust head of puffy, foamy suds collapses surprisingly quickly. A couple of minutes later, I'm left with a smattering of sticky lace and a thin collar. Subtle pineapple notes on the nose, in addition to grainy malts, tortilla chips and a faint grassiness.

It tastes alright - grainy malts, corn chips, doughy sweetness and a hint of real pineapple fruitiness are what I'm getting. Hints of grassy hops, lemon pith and floral astringency on the back end; the pineapple is faint, but lasts into the finish, dissipating into a relatively dry aftertaste. Light in body, with assertive carbonation that remains prickly and crisp right down to the last couple of sips. Solid drinkability.

Final Grade: 3.66, a B grade. NZ Style Pineapple Pilsner is a charming and summery take on a pilsner, but at the end of the day it's not as good as the German exports. I do think the base pilsner is competently brewed, but the pineapple doesn't actually add much IMO. If you enjoy lagers/pilsners and aren't opposed to a mild fruit addition, I'd say it's worth a shot while it's still around... just take my advice and open it over a sink.
