My maternal aunt & her husband have been in DC since I was a wee one & I have visited our nation's capitol almost as often as PHL & a few other world cities. As I grew older, more independent & a whole lot more anarchical, I was given greater autonomy to explore & do my own thing. I still have a place to stay, but when they are out of town, I will CouchSurf or find a local Youth Hostel with an available bunk. Such was the case as my Pens played the Caps in Game 5, which the former lost on the way to their eventual Stanley Cup victory. I awoke the following morning, checked out & hit the nearby liquor store which was just opening for the day. I know how to scour for CANQuest (tm) CANs & I was on the prowl when I spotted this mixed-six. I inquired of the proprietor if there was a limit. "Pheh! My son accepts these from the distributor while I am away! They don't move. Limit? Your credit card!" 8=O! I was stunned, but reserved myself to one for me & one for my returning in-person trader, tone77.
From the CAN: "Hand rail fastplant kick-nose finger flip sick impossible shoveit Old Ghosts. Hang up hospital flip snake coffin slide heel flip slap Maxwell. Powerslide 540 1080 nose skater melancholy indy grab Vernon Courtland Johnson."; "Label Art by The Committee on Opprobriations".
Man, I am digging both the wild modern art & the name! I am a retired U.S. Navy Storekeeper (repair-parts supply as opposed to retail sales) & although I am quite familiar with pallet jacks, none of mine were pink. In fact, they were generally Safety Yellow. Bummer.
NOT a bummer is when the Crack! happens, signaling the beginning of another CANQuest (tm) review, like right now! The inverted Glug lent an all-new perspective the CAN's art & even produced a finger-and-a-half of soapy, foamy head that quickly fell to wisps. Color was not Pink at all! My guests, Pink & The Pink Panther were VERY disappointed. Color was, instead, a hazy Amber (SRM = > 7, < 9). I will have to have them back for some Yards Pynk. In the interim, the nose had the light funk that is the trademark of the style along with a light lemony smell. I CAN hang with it, but it is not one of my favorite styles. I raised my glass in salute to my old buddy, Kenny, who frequently joins me here in the kitchen at Chez Woody. Ken & I commissioned the USS Normandy (CG-60) in 1989 & he passed right after our 25th anniversary reunion a couple of years ago. He is a frequent visitor here & my Pops also makes an ocCANsional appearance. Onward. Mouthfeel was thin & watery. The taste was VERY unusual, even for a Saison. It tasted like a fountain-made Cherry Coke! I kid you not. When I was just a wee lad, Smithgall's Pharmacy still had an operating soda fountain & a Cherry Coke was a real treat. Man, the memories. I am not really nostalgic for my childhood as I was overweight & bookish & got picked on a LOT for a stretch of about five or six years until puberty really kicked in and I shed a lot of weight. More digressions. This was tasty, but there is no way that I would have identified it as a Saison. I'm not sure what I would have said, but Saison ain't it. Aha! Hibiscus! It was an interesting add, but just not quite on the mark. Finish was semi-sweet, perfume-y, actually. Things that make you go "Hmmm."

A thanks to the creator of the canquest, woodychandler, for this beer. Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a dark golden color with pink hues and a 1 inch head. Smell is floral, hibiscus. Taste is tart, hibiscus, some malts, a bit dry. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a decent beer.

The flowers really come through, almost overpowering. Thin and watery.

Light on the carbonation, floral smell with a amber coloring, lack of head may have been due to the way I poured though

A- Amber coloring with pink hues around the edge. Foamy, pink head that dissipates quickly, leaving little lacing on the glass.
S- Floral and grassy, the hibiscus really shines through here, with notes from the rose occasionally popping up
T- Yeast and hibiscus dominate here. Little to no bitterness, but very tart and ridiculously drinkable. Tried to savor this one, but put it down in ten minutes tops
F- Very light body, which contributes to its drinkability. Leaves a puckering sensation in your mouth, which is not unpleasant if you are expecting it (which you should be, considering the sour character of hibiscus)
O- A lovely summer brew, I hope to see this outside of the 5 year DC Brau pack very soon. One of my favorites from this brewery so far

Pours slightly pink out of the can, settles into the glass a bright orange with a soapy slightly pink head. Aroma is doughy bread, very yeasty, some floral notes. Bready in the flavor as well. Big yeast presence, slightly tart and floral through the finish. Feel is yeasty, medium bodied, medium carbonation. Aside from the big yeast presence, this one has some good things going on. Would have preferred a little more hibiscus.

A-a clear amber color with a thin layer of white head that leaves a light ring around the top
S-spicy, yeast, and malty
T-similar to the smell with a pale malty backbone, some spices but not as much as the aroma suggests, and light yeast
M-medium body, moderate to high carbonation
Overall the beer had a nice aroma but the taste was a little lacking
