Colliding Hemispheres" is a collaborative beer between DC Brau, Hop Union and Briess Malts & Ingredients. When conceiving the recipe we were imagining an American Brown Ale brewed with our house Belgian Abbey yeast and hopped with both New Zealand and Australian hops.

Brewery filled growler. Pours a deep brown/black with several fingers of rich and rocky mocha colored head. Very robust retention here, which drenches the sides of the glass with a ton of sticky lacing. Hops sit right at the forefront of the aroma, with a fresh blast of floral, piney and herbal character and notes of zesty lemon and some sweeter tropical fruit. Smoky malt sweetness mixes in from the rear, giving this a robust twang in the nostrils. The taste starts with a green citric bitterness that spreads out with a smack of lemon across the palate. Grassy, herbal and light tropical elements are all present as well, with the fruitiness in particular working well with the smoky roasted twang of the malts. Dry and bitter on the finish with some lingering herbal touches. This was definitely an interesting American/Belgian hybrid Brown Ale style that really worked. Especially the combination of Pacific hops, fruity esters and then that sweet roasted twang from the malts all combined in a way that was tasty and a bit surprising.

Growler shared by Travlr. Thanks Gene. The beer is dark cola brown with a thin beige head. Aroma brings roast, hops, pine. Smells fantastic. Great flavor. Well balanced and really enjoyable. Pine, hops, malt body. Very tasty.
