a special edition of their german chocolate cake dark ale. not sure whether to call this a porter or a stout or something else, but i lined it up with the original, maybe whoever added that had more information than i do. it drinks kind of light for what it is, just like the original, with the cherry more obvious in the nose than the taste, almost a cherry cordial thing, a syrup, sweet and intense, but nice with the other elements, especially the chocolate, which the cherry seems to highlight a little bit, like this is almost more flavorful overall than the original, but i definitely want to drink less of it. there is a definite cherry cola or dr pepper aspect to the flavor of this, that 23 flavors sort of thing, i can get the coconut coming through, but again more in aroma than flavor, cocoa, vanilla bean, caramel, coffee, its a little sweeter than i want it to be, but it tastes good. the cherry makes this a bit desserty overall, where i didnt really think that about the original, this is definitely less of a pint beer. a touch sticky in feel but its not all that full bodied, and i appreciate the lower alcohol in a dark brew this flavorful. the coconut keeps flashing in and out, and i taste it again on the swallow. i think this base beer is quite compelling, and it doesnt really need the fruit, but its a cool variant, and it seems like this beer has a ton of potential for special editions with various adds. looking forward to whatever else they do with it!
