Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque black in the glass with a one finger khaki head with good retention and light lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, coconut, vanilla and mild cocoa. Flavor follows, with dark toasted malt, coconut, light milk chocolate and light vanilla. Coconut and cocoa in finish. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. Well, in my review of the base Dark Persuasion (6.5%), I liked it and wished for an imperial version. And here Icicle has brewed up a bigger version! It's a somewhat modest step up in ABV, but from a distance of four years, I'm thinking this has some more flavor depth than the original. It also does the same good job of being reminiscent of German chocolate cake with authentic chocolate and coconut character. The chocolate is somewhat muted and the body is a bit lighter than expected, but the malt supports the flavors well. In addition, although lightly sweet, this is not on the sweet end of the pastry stout spectrum, and won my heart. I got my wish before and now would like an more robust version; the base flavors are fine.

A bit disappointed. Quite enjoy Dark Persuasion, but the extra version is lacking. Thin mouthfeel and metallic taste (which I've oddly found from a lot of coconut).
