As far as imperial stouts go, this is hands-down the worst one I have tried to this point in my beer drinking career. Maybe it’s because I cannot warm up to any kind of smokey-tasting beverage or food at all, and that is what New Boswell’s Maelstrom is brewed with the most - that smokey-ness.
I suppose if you are a fan of drinking a beer that tastes exactly like what eating a smoked piece of ham would taste like then you would enjoy it, but that is not for me. I just cannot understand why they would want to add such an extreme amount of both smokey aroma and after-taste to this stout, because other than that one insanely large drawback it seemed to have a lot going for it...like a nice body with a foamy head and a promising aroma.
Unless you are basically obsessed with smokey tasting things, STAY AWAY FROM THIS.
