a solid red, this is more modern than most with the hoppiness, but short of a red ipa to me, the kind of red that is coming into vogue, and i appreciate that in a style that has been hard to get excited about generally speaking. this is bigger in alcohol, but not sugary from the malt. its balanced and has some bitterness, but it doesnt have a long linger and is well proportioned enough to be super drinkable, especially this time of year, where a little extra alcohol and some grain weight are appreciated! this is almost brown in color, and has some real depth to it, chestnut, brown bread, and molasses notes come out, deeply toasted and caramelized without being roasted bitter or sugary sweet, its impressively robust. the hops have some pine and some light candied orange character, but also some significant bitterness at the end, this isnt all malt like many reds and ambers are. this is the direction i like to see red ales moving in, especially in the fall here, and while i liked this a lot, its still a step behind what i reckon is the best of these right now, the mountain traffic from crux, which is the gold standard, at least for me. nice hop profile here though, good malt complexity too, and its definitely a lot more interesting than most beers in its field. well done, glad to have this one around for the fall. old school and new school at the same time.

Serving: On tap

Pours a muddy amber color with one thick beige finger of fizzy head that dissipates to a hefty film. Decent retention, some lacing.
Both the aroma and flavor are comprised of bright citrusy hops on top of amber-tasting, bready malt that verges on being molasses-like. Pretty drinkable but the malt sweetness hurts drinkability a tiny bit to my tastes. All told it is good, but it is kind of a fight on the tongue between strong flavors rather than harmony between them.

This is a dark, malty IRA. Nose is dominated by malt sugars with a little herb and lime hopiness. Taste is more hop bitterness from a hop perspective, but still dominated by the sweet tea like malt flavors. This is really more of a strong amber than IRA, which is not really my speed, but it's reasonably digestible in spite of the maltiness.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a dark, cloudy orange amber with a huge light khaki head with good retention and lots of lacing. Aroma of biscuit and caramel malt, richly malty, with suggestions of dark stone fruit and light grassy hops. Flavor is rich biscuit malt with a hint of caramel, brown and rye bread, hints of dark fruit, finishes malty with grassy hops. Medium bodied with good creaminess and mouth feel. The aroma was perfect for a red ale, and the flavor followed with nice light fruit flavors in a deep, malty body with light, but pleasant hops. This beer looks, smells and tastes great and to style. Very well done and enjoyable. My favorite from this brewery so far, good enough to encourage me to try all theif offerings.

Drank this one on draft (from a growler) poured at Uptown Market- Beaverton
Pours a very dark amber color (so dark that when it is not in direct light it looks almost straight brown) with a pretty fluffy tan-colored head. Totally opaque with lots of cloying bubbles holding up along the edge of the glass.
Aroma is a good mix of malt and hop. Toffee, caramel, and biscuit are present at first. They are followed by a perfect balance of pine and citrus aroma. Stick your nose far enough into the glass and a good pull of molasses sweetness comes through as well.
Taste is the perfect, full mix of malt and hops. Roasted malts, toffee, caramel, biscuit--it's all there. But the hop bitterness and citrus goodness is not to be denied either. A very full, flavorful, balanced, and impressive taste to this one.
Thick and full-bodied with medium carbonation.
What can I say, I am damned impressed by this beer. This is no run-of-the-mill red ale. Complex, potent, flavorful, and biting--it really has it all. I am a total fan of Slaughter House, and I will, no doubt, consume it again.

Pleasantly surprised. Strong yet smooth. Dark amber with small beige head. Mainly malt with some stinging hops on the back end. Tasty stuff. This has become one of my go-to beers (when in season).

My favorite winter beer in Idaho thus far.
Pours into a a lake of red velvet with cream on top, out of a can sir.
I want to give it to a cold kid in Russia.
Boozy for the breed but it pulls it off.
Smiling, laughing, fun, red-faced (it's heavy) buzz.
Ben Franklin would like this beer.

12 oz can from a 6 pack bought from Winco superstore in S. Salem $7.49 Pours a nice dark amber with a good sized light tan head, that fades but leaves good lace. Good balanced aroma with toffee malts and niceresiny and citrus hopping. Smooth and balanced taste..with the malts winning at the end. Nice thick smooth low to medium carbonation. Nice beer
