Bottle picked up at the brewery when it was first released. I also feel it is more of a Belgian Strong Ale than a quad. Dark clear brown with ruby tinges. Foamy head disperses quickly. Aroma is a rich melange of dark malts, molasses, pit fruit, chocolate and wood. Flavor adds to the above mixture with the wine barrel notes. Add a hint of alcohol warmth to finish. Slight metallic taste at very end, but all else a decent Belgian.

Bottle picked up tonight at the brewery for a pretty reasonable $13... but B:30 and the COOP and probably all the other bottle shops have it too. Poured into my teku, it shows dark brown with a little muddy ruby showing at the stem end.. foamy dark tan head rises up but dies back pretty quickly.. only the barest of spotty lacing. Nose reminds me of brown sugar essence with cola/grape soda (not a bad thing).. Dark toast and cocoa come through on the palate then moves into lightly vinous oak with a little tannin quality.. surprisingly complex but the Belgian yeasty character is a little lacking even with warmth. Still this is pretty well done... Body and carbonation seem par for the course... Congratulations.

I will buy this again.
