Bottle from Albertsons. Muddy brown pour, slight beige head. Big, heady aroma, boozy, some vanilla notes. Taste brings more of the rye flavors, plenty of barrel accents, some more vanilla, savory notes too. All around tasty, and style benefited from the barrel aging.

Bottle picked up at the taproom earlier this week.. Poured tonight into my trusty CBC Teku... Light haze is accentuated by the deep amber of the brew... khaki head rises up for only about :15 and dies back to nothing... Very light carbonation, not exactly flat, but close... Church of HotD? ;-)
Big and malty across the board but never exactly "sweet"... Dry toasty maltiness works well with the sweet cherries and the barrels... A slight bit of EtOH on the finish is present, but the cherry notes come back around to help mask the light booziness.. spicy/vanilla oak with warmth... Brown sugar notes as it warms up becomes a distracting from the rest of the beery elements.
More carbonation would go miles to make this a better beer by pushing the nose and scrubbing the palate.. right now, it sorta lays around for too long and makes for a lazy sipper.
Very interesting brew and great concept.. Could easily pass for something like a "Manhattan Cocktail" lean brew. Brooklyn Brewing did something similar many years ago and I remember their version having more bubble and finishing drier with hints of orange peel. Shoot for that idea, hint.. hint....... hint.
