they didnt need to put fruit in this, it was fine on its own, still is, but i guess if they were going to jump on the blood orange (or any citrus for that matter) ipa train, i am glad they didnt add too much, or that they let it ferment out so much that its not overly sweet or forced tasting, its just an essence, even lighter than that, like the thought of blood orange without the substance of it, and i dont mind that. it does add a weird sort of metallic minerality to the beer, more than it needs on the finish, and either the fruit is lost in the fuller malt profile of the base beer a bit, or it just hums along at the same pitch and sort of becomes hard to pick out, at least while its still cold from the tap. the light acidity of the fruit also seems to break down the body a bit, and thus some of the balance the original boasts, leaving a more exposed bitter hop on the finish. its not a necessary add, and i dont love what it did to the beer, but as fruited ipa goes, i am glad this is still ipa first. that said, its one of my least favorite payette beers so far...

Citrus accents and softens the normal bitterness, replacing it with citrus tartness. Nice orange hue, minimal head, orangy aroma. Taste has malt, hops and citrus all in equal amounts, and almost layered. Very refreshing.

12oz can - no further helpful info on the label, so we're left with 'blood orange' and 'IPA'. Got it.
This beer pours a faintly hazy, medium copper amber colour, with two fat fingers of puffy, loosely foamy, and bubbly tan head, which leaves some decent thin snow rime lace around the glass as it evenly subsides.
It smells of mixed domestic citrus rind (zesty lemon, lime, and yep, blood orange), a further berry fruitiness, some grainy and bready caramel malt, a hint of earthy yeastiness, and a bit of leafy, weedy, and floral green hop bitters. The taste is grainy and crackery caramel malt, a blended oily citrus mass, the plain berry smoothie that my kid thinks is a 'candy treat' (not for long), and more edgy leafy, weedy, and musky floral verdant hoppiness.
The carbonation is fairly inert in its bored-seeming frothiness, the body a solid middleweight, and generally smooth, with a nice airy creaminess seeping in once things warm up a tad around here. It finishes off-dry, the complex citrus fruity essences pushing the waning malt to its limit.
Overall - yup, this is one orange (and friends) forward version of an IPA, with the typical forest floor detritus bitterness overshadowed by the sassy citrus acridity. Easy to drink, and quite flavourful, it's like an NEIPA, sans the milkshake aspect, not to mention the stupid hype. Good stuff.

Tasted at a reataurant in Mountain Home, ID. Color has some orange and pink highlights; nice rocky head. Aromas are strong on citrus, but not much more than any IPA with citrusy hops. Same impression of the flavors. A solid IPA but not overly distictive.

This beer takes on an evolution in the palate, what first tastes like a rusty bike lock transforms into a ravishing orange bliss, then hop euphoria!

Juicy, Bitter, Oranges, Raspberries
Hazy, opaque, and dirty orange with a creamy lacing. The aroma is intense and packed with fresh oranges, floral notes and bread crusts while the mouthfeel is creamy. Payette has made a juicy, bitter, and pithy beer with even more orangey flavors and a semi-tart, raspberry bite. Bready malts provide some balance, while a layer of toastiness carries through into the finish. Infusing blood oranges with Rustler IPA was a good call.
