i liked the mexican chocolate twelve gauge, but i think i like this even better. its a more drinkable beer obviously for one, but its like there is less of the grain, the sweetness, and the heaviness, so the added ingredients merge a little sooner on the palate, dont need to be dosed to high heaven, and marry into what is a very underrated porter quite well. i definitely get chocolate ahead of anything else, aided by the dark cocoa character in the grain base here, nice with the bitter roast so it never seems sweet. i also get plenty of cinnamon, and hints of almond, vanilla, and even smoked chili pepper too, although im not sure what all is actually in this. my guess is a little of the smoke is from the malt, a little of the throat warmth is from the real cinnamon, but there is probably some vanilla here. i get some brown sugar sweet with it, but there is balance here. the cinnamon brings the whole thing up, and it drinks rich and satisfying and wintery and warming without being heavy, really good proportions here and flavors mixing, i could drink a bunch of these. it helps that the base porter is so good, but they downright nailed this one, impressively good, one of the best beers ive had from payette in recent memory. did this get packaged? i want more!

On tap in Meridian ID.
Pours a pretty dark brown with minimal head and the lightest hints of ruby at the stem of glass.
The nose opens with dried cocoa/chocolate notes, various spices, and vanilla? The sweetness is there, I wasn't aware there was actually vanilla in this beer. Smells good, the sweetness balanced with the spicyness.
Definitely follows the nose on the palate; pepper skin, spice and cinnamon are present, as well as dark cocoa and roasted coffee...caramel even? Might be the impression of sweetness with that vanilla note.
Thinner/medium bodied porter but in-line with a 6% beer.
Overall this is a good beer, not overpowering but fairly balanced and with all of the adjuncts shining at different times.
