barrel aged and gnarly, ive heard people say this is gross and all, but i really didnt think it was all that sweet, at least compared to what it could be, sure the whiskey part seems sweet, clearly its malty, and there are obvious vanilla tones in here, honey curtains on it too, but whatever, it is what it says it is, and while it maybe doesnt taste like the named treat, its solid beer, a good strong ale for fall weather months and something i think is better than its current public perception by a considerable margin. half the payette beer is on one side of that fence though, and half of it on the other, even still. this has a little color to it but doesnt look all that viscous for what it is, has more of the whiskey than the oak in the nose as well as the taste, and is rich with floral honey and baked notes, short of desserty and also short of elegant, but i can taste the wheat and i like it coming through, especially in a style named after it. this isnt amazing, and its definitely a sipper, especially in the summer, but its better than folks are saying it is, its somewhat unique, and its a neat little twist and something esoteric, im into it, even if i only want a few ounces. dont hate.

16oz can into a small tumbler.
A: Pours a rich clear copper with minimal tan head, inviting and warm. Carbonation seems low.
S: Rich and decadent notes of caramel breadiness and sweetened vanilla, notes of brandy and bourbon, hints of cinnamon and spice.
T: More caramel and malty tones mixed with sweet vanilla bourbon cream. The cinnamon dances in and out in a subdued fashion, leaving the caramel and bourbon to lead the charge here. A decent palate of sweetness and dessert without being cloying.
MF: Syrupy and full with lower carbonation, this is a sipper for sure.
O: Not a fan of atrocities caramel coloring but the flavors are good and it isn’t too boozy or sickly sweet.

16 oz can from Boise Co-op. Dark brown, clear, small bubbly head fades to flat. Aroma offers a hint of caramel, cinnamon and the bourbon. Taste focuses the cinnamon which should be an accent, not the main event. Where's the sweet, gooey caramel? A mere shadow of a stroopwafel.
