Evocative of flavors crafted by ancient Maya & Aztec civilizations. Hot peppers ignite a kick of spice balanced with cinnamon and chocolate for a full sensory delight.

Clear, dark brown body, looks opaque in the glass; no head per se, thin, wispy ring inside the glass. No distinctive aroma; a faint note of malt and cocoa. The taste exhibits some notes of cocoa, milk chocolate; a barely perceptible element of chili pepper flavor. Medium-light body; smooth, glassy, watery.
Perhaps this single I purchased locally was from 2020 as per the can date. That's highly unusual for this place, yet the beer, overall, is flat and lifeless. I would hope a fresh version would have more life and depth.
Pouring temperature: 38.7 ℉; canning info: 11/5/20 (!?)

12oz can from Albertsons. Can opens with a gush. Dark brown body with a fast disappearing head. Aroma is cinnamon, light chocolate. More cinnamon in the taste, light sweetness. Roasty malts buried under the cinnamon. Spicy finish.

Dull black to dark brown with a moderate khaki foam head leaving some craggy lacing on the glass.
Quite smooth and chocolatey with what might seem like a hint of strawberry before a little spicy chile pepper quickly pops up just until the semi-wet finish exhales herbal tobacco.
Overall semisweet and very mild.

Not very spicy, rather more sweet on the chocolate cinnamon side of things. The pepper spice come after you swallow. This is a nice beer I’d get again.

not retired, back in rotation. really delicious, especially on nitro, such a creamy smoothness to this in that format, the flavors love this texture. dark chocolate brown color, rich full inch of tan nitro lather, gorgeous. its got a nice complexity to it too, the chocolate is evident right away, lightly bitter with the roasted grain but definitely some sweetness too, nice balance, it fits in real well. the cinnamon is in front of the chili pepper to me, warming and wintery, with just a little heat from the pepper highlighting it, a hint of smoke here too, either from grain or pepper. the flavor is cool because its a delicious base porter for the first half, maybe some chocolate up there too, but all of the spice is reserved for the home stretch, they hit at the same time, stay awhile, and then fade out together as well. never too hot but definitely some real chili in the back of the throat on each sip. so smooth and creamy, the chocolate loves it, i get light vanilla as it sits too, nice roasted character late, and an almost soothing effect. overall this is exceptional, hands down the best of these embers variants so far, tastefully done, rightly balanced, flattered by the nitro. one of their best recent brews!

I've rated this low because of the peppers added. Not strong but is there in the after taste. I like peppers to eat but not in my beer , Otherwise the malty porter is great

12oz canned in early October, poured into a nonic; clear, dark brown pour with minimal head and ample carbonation; sweet, chocolatey nose with an impression of vanilla and light spice character. More of the same on the palate, milk chocolate and vanilla and a little complementary cinnamon, with the slightest, ghostly impression of heat/pepper spice. Thinner medium body. Overall a delicious winner in the Embers series from Payette.
