The brewer calls this a dark version of a British IPA using "earthy British hops" and rates it at 78 IBU. The hops are certainly not the dank basement-smelling sort favored by the Cascadian funk farmers.
More bitter than any typical British IPA, but not like a DIPA either. A little licorice in the mix, some spiciness, and alcohol heat. Nice nose of fragrant flowery hops, but the taste is resiny. Lots of hops, but the bitterness is not comsuming. More of an imperial stout aftertaste. Surprisingly light bodied.
As with most of the Copper Kettle brews, this one is quite user-friendly yet totally off the track of the usual brewpub styles.
