Dark brown in the glass. A foamy cap but not overly carbonated. some sharpness and the spices are robust, but not overdone. It has a pleasant malty taste, some dark roasted flavors, and a mysterious taste that must be the pumpkin. Their alleged fresh, local pumpkins were roasted and steamed. Sounds like a lot of work, but the result is pretty good.
This is more tart than you'd expect for a big imperial brew, but it's totally drinkable. Just a touch of bitterness. There is just enough sweetness, which lingers with the spice. A little cinnamon, maybe some syrup, a touch of yams.
All in all, it's one of the better pumpkin beers I've had among some loopy losers. On tap at the brewpub in far east Denver, and one of their best efforts.
