I sampled this on a recent visit to the hotel/brewpub in Melbourne.
The beer arrived in a tall flute glass and is cold.
The beer is very dark and exhibits a creamy tan head of 2cm that rests effortlessly on the surface. Aroma is rich with roasted malt and dark chocolate notes with a hint of the currant used in the brewing. The dominant scent is roasty malt.
First sip reveals a very smooth textured body which is fairly thick. Super fine and tingly carbonation rolls across my palate. The flavor is rich and malty with chocolate and roasted malt mixing with some molasses and again tart and sweet currant appears on the finish with just a hint of bitey coffeebean as well. The finish doesnt linger long but is quite tasty. The beer is well crafted and enjoyable and quite a nice treat on just my second day in Australia.
