Pours a rich amber colour; certainly not dunkel. Head is white, pleasant distributed with small lace. Looks like an OK beer, but a weak dunkel with the wrong grain bill.
Smell is quite sweet, with brown sugar and notes of berry compote, cherry and slight milk chocolate on the back. Decent.
Taste is grainy and fairly mild. Malty throughout with hints of golden syrup and brown sugar. Slightly toasted cereal towards the back, but there's not much complexity. More roasty notes would really keep me interested, although it's a nice mellow palate overall.
Thin, unmoving texture. Pretty meh.
Everything wrong with this beer comes down to a deficiency of darker chocolatey malts. Fix that and you've got yourself a pretty decent beer here.

More red in color than anything else this beer was a great afternoon break beer while stroling through berlin. Never seen it in the united states and only seen it in bars with many beers in germany, this brew is a unique change from the usual suspects and one everyone should try once.

This was my favourite of the offerings at the Duckstein. Although disappointingly served in a 0.4L glass at an exorbitant price ($9), it was a tasty lager, but not completely ticking the boxes for a true munich style dunkel. It had a good roasted barley presence, some malt backbone, but lacked a little kick in taste. It was possibly a bit muddy and tasted a little like a stout. I'm not even sure if it is bottom fermented!
But I could sit there and put away a few of these..
