Had this on tap (pump tap) at the Holgate brewhouse.
A = Dark ruby or Mahogany. Duh.
S = Smelt of dark rich chocolate and coffee notes.
T = Tasted of dark chocolate and coffee bitterness. Nice.
M = This is where I think this beer was let down for me. Maybe because I like carbonation or maybe its because of the tap that they use. The bar tender told me that it was some official english bar tap that was pump action. That means NO CARBONATION. Or at least in the beers that came of their tap, no carbonation.
D = No carbonation put me off. SO AWFUL. Which is a shame because the beer tastes nice. Its just so damn flat

Another beautiful beer at the Holgate Brewhouse in Woodsend. The beer pours a (you guessed it) mahogany colour with shades of ruby red coming through the bottom of the glass. Excellent head retention. The smell is a sweet, malty chocolate and the taste is the same. A great cocoa, clocolaty taste comes through, but it's very well balanced. The mouthfeel is thinner than you would expect for a beer this dark and that helps its drinkability. At 6% ABV, the alcohol is remarkably well hidden. This is a yummy beer. Don't miss it.
