From a bottle, it pours a murky brown color with a thin ring of wispy tan head.
The nose is booze, butterscotch and wet oak. I get a little rye, some dark fruit, and a bit of vegetation that reminds of garbage. This is disappointing. The flavor is sweet and booze, leathery, with raisins, plums, dark fruit. I get a bit of spice, some cinnamon, but nothing that really ties this beer together.
Another miss.

The beer pours a fairly strong and bubbly dark tan head that rises fast but disappears just as quickly. The beer itself is a very dark brown opaque color with a slight hint of black and ruby. Oddly enough, the beer appearance doesn't seem to scream winter warmer but rather something else but can't quite put my finger on it.
The beer smell is pretty spicy with cinnamon, gingerbread, and other spices that are used in gingerbread men. The smell also strong alcohol and vanilla notes notes that work pretty well with the winter warmer spices. The scent slightly resembles the Hardywood Gingerbread stout but slightly more boozy, which works.
The beer taste also isn't half bad and is pretty good once it warms up a little bit. The spice notes including cinnamon and sugar and gingerbread come out pretty well but are also supplement by a nice vanilla flavor from the barrels. The rye only comes out a little bit and adds a bit extra but not much, which is still pretty good. The sweet alcohol notes also add a little something extra, which is pretty good.
The beer's mouthfeel is a bit underwhelming for a winter warmer. The beer is still heavy bodied but it seems to lack the thickness commonly associated with winter warmers. The beer feels pretty slick and smooth with biting carbonation to add a little bit of texture.
Overall, not a bad batch. I think it was a decent first time experiment and one that definitely should be repeated with the aim of making it a little thicker.
