Martin City Coffee Cowboy Barrel Aged Scottish Ale, 10.5% ABV. Pours dark brown with a half-finger tan head that left no lacing. Nose is excellent smoke and earthy, with a hint of tobacco. Taste is earthy, coffee, and moderately sour, but not quite vinegar. As the other reviewers don't mention sour, I have to believe that is not as intended, and I would call it off-tasting. Mouthfeel is OK, but hard to get past the flavor. Overall poor.

Thank you Harrison8 for this
12 oz can poured into a tulip

A- A very dark brown, a little murky, with a two finger tan head.

S- Smoky, peat, toffee, roasted coffee, oak, some scotch.

T- Smoky, dark fruits, peat, some oak, touch of toffee, some roasted coffee, some scotch.

M- Smooth, medium to full body.

O- A solid barrel aged beer, just wish the toffee in the nose came out more in the taste to peatiness/smokiness of this beer. Coffee is also pretty mild in this beer, but I’m willing to give that a pass given the style.

Poured from a 12oz can into a tulip glass.

Pours dark brown with a one finger beige head that disappears quickly and leaves not a trace of lacing.

Smell is smoke, peat, alcohol, and a slight, sweet maltiness. I'm not getting much coffee on the nose.

Flavor is similar, dominated by smoke and a peaty, whiskey flavor. These flavors are balanced by the sweet malts. There is some coffee present but it is subdued.

Body is medium-full.

The can gets it right:

"It's a large and powerful beer made to drink slowly with a cigar"

Definitely a solid brew, however, I would love for the coffee flavor to come through a bit more.

Pours a deep brown with half a finger of khaki head. Head fizzes up quickly and then disappears just as quickly. No lacing. Aroma is smoke, peat, wood, and coffee. Flavor profile is very much the same. Smoke, peat, firewood, and a little coffee. It certainly has an earthy, camping, smoke a cigar vibe. Mouth feel is medium-thick with a filling, smooth texture. Overall, this is quite dark and complex, and because of that, polarizing. It certainly has the taste of peaty scotch, which may or may not be ideal. Sip slow.

Served in a 12oz snifter.
