Appearance: Very dark brown body topped off with a khaki-colored foam cap. Light rings of lacing on the descent.
Smell: Fireside leans roasty with touches of mild chocolate, light coffee. Slight pine hop scent but also some citrusy notes along the lines of orange-grapefruit.
Taste: Roasty malts with a kick of scorched grains yielding a light astringency. Cocoa, coffee and a restrained sweetness. Citrusy hops, a little pine show moreso as the beer warms a bit. Roasty, lightly hoppy finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Overall: A simple, straight-forward but decent ale.

Very dark brown/black with a modest tan head and some decent lacing. The aroma is dark roasted malt, coffee and dark chocolate. The taste is also malt forward, coffee and dark chocolate with a bit of nice alcohol warmth. The finish dries out a bit with lingering coffee and white pepper notes. The body is medium, moderate carbonation, drinkable and reasonably smooth. Altogether, this is a very decent porter, very nice for a cool weather bracer.
