Wrecking Bar Brewpub "Extra Gloves Winter Lager"
16 fl. oz. can, "Canned: 12.30". Sampled on 02.28.2026
Notes via stream of consciousness: This is labeled at 5.8% ABV so it's not too strong, but a little stronger than your average beer. It's poured a clear brown body beneath a full head of yellowed off-white foam. The aroma is clean and a bit spicy over some dark maltiness. I'm getting ginger and cinnamon, but what else is in there? I don't know. The malt isn't real strong but I'm guessing that there's some chocolate malt in the grain bill. The taste confirms the cinnamon and ginger but I can't find anything else. Maybe there's some nutmeg in there but I don't know. The malt is sweetish but not "sweet", and it's bready and toasty with chocolate and caramel notes. There's a little bit of citrus to it as well. A median bitterness of somewhere between 20-30 IBUs balances it nicely, leading to a dry finish with some spiciness and citrus lingering. I'm not generally a fan of spiced ales because they tend to be overdone but that's certainly not the case here. In the mouth it's medium bodied and gently crisp. This is clearly well-brewed, and based on the balance between the malt, the spices, the hops, and the bitterness the brewer knows what he's doing.
