[Reviewed from notes taken Fall 2014.]
Growler filled @ Flix Brewhouse. Served into a stem-tulip within 48 hours of filling.
HEAD: 1 finger in height. Bone-white colour. Consistency has decent thickness and creaminess to it. Decent complexion. Leaves no lacing as it recedes.
BODY: Clear yellow-copper of average vibrance. No yeast or sediment is visible within. I'm surprised by its clarity seeing as it's intended to be a saison. Obviously filtered.
Not a unique or special looking attempt at a saison.
AROMA: A biteen starchy. Lemon, lemon zest, wheat, blonde malts, dry yeast. Not spicy at all or funky, but interesting.
TASTE: Lightly starchy. Belgian pale malts. Dry yeast.
Lacks any spiciness at all, whether from yeast or actual spice.
Lemon zest. Wheat.
It's not intricate to any extent, coming off painfully simple for a saison. Lacks subtlety to its execution, but I suppose it's somewhat balanced. I do like it for what it is (a sort of Belgian pale ale with wheat, if you will).
Average depth, duration, and intensity of flavour.
TEXTURE: Smooth and wet. Light-bodied. Of apt carbonation.
Not oily, gushed, hot, boozy, astringent, or harsh.
OVERALL: It's quite drinkable, but fails to deliver on its intended style. More of a starchy Belgian pale ale. I'll enjoy finishing the growler, but given its simplicity there isn't much to say about it and I wouldn't necessarily recommend it to others.
