On tap at Roc Brewing Co in Rochester, NY.
A coffee saison? Now I've seen everything. This is a collaboration with Joe Bean Coffee Roasters. They make great coffee so although apprehensive, I still have high hopes for this one.
Pours a golden shiny yellow, with a 2 inch head, and great lacing. Just a glowing, pretty beer.
Smells include banana, slight Belgian yeast, clove, and a little bit of coffee.
Cold from the tap, the coffee flavor is pretty subtle. As it warms, the coffee becomes pronounced, giving the saison base an almost velvety feel, with some wonderful bitterness that blocks the typical weird Belgian yeast flavors in saisons I don't typically care for. Lots of banana flavors more typical to hefes.
Light to medium bodied, really, really drinkable, crisp mouthfeel, high level of carbonation.
This really did work, I'm happy Roc Brewing is taking big risks like this, and producing great beer out of it.
