Full bodied with a heady tropical aroma, robust bitterness, and a dry finish.

A: This poured a clear light mahogany with some tan head.
S: It smelled like candied apricots and sweet caramel, with a little pine and floral hops.
T: It tasted like lots of sweet caramel and bitter pine, with some candied apricots and herbal hops. It had a clean bitter aftertaste.
M: It was thick with some carbonation. Nice big body.
D: This was a very nice red ale, somewhere between Hop Rod and Mouflan. The scent and taste were bold but balanced. The body was great, and the alcohol was well hidden with a fairly smooth finish. So it was pretty easy to drink. Nothing ground breaking, but I would drink this again. Recommended.

First off, this is listed as an imperial of the style. I rated it on enjoyment more so than style, and considering it matched the brewer's description quite well. It definitely tended towards the bitter/hop-forward end of beers, and ended resin-y and dry. I can't help but think its a crossover in some ways.

A: if not, almost near perfect amber color, with significant lacing
S: some fruity, mildly tropical flavors, with a definite foreshadowing of bitterness
T/M: I get from this the same impression I get from a west coast IPA (umm... Just realized the point of the name maybe). This of course throws the balance and smoothness of a typical red out the window. Since I like IPAs, while questioning my love of the west-coast style (I digress), this worked for me. For others expecting a more balanced beer, it might not fly.
