Picked this one up on clearance for $2.99 at Midtowne Market in Harrisonburg. Not what you expect, clear golden color, not a lot of amber in the appearance. Somewhat foamy head that dissipates to nothing and has no lacing. Pear and apple in the aroma and the same in the taste. It was very surprising, had to go back and check the bottle. If I did not know better I would have sworn it was a cider. Thin feel, but very clean on the finish. Overall this was a very interesting and somewhat tasty beer. If you are looking for a good amber, maybe not, but a tasty drink then yes. I enjoyed it, and recommend it just for the interesting experiment by lost nation with whatever "fossil" yeast is. May have to try more of their stuff.

The thought of how this was made made it that much worse. Really not good....

A: This poured a clear light gold with quickly dissipating head.
S: It smelled like earthy bread crust and copper hops, with a little peach.
T: It tasted like copper hops and earthy bread crust, with a little peach and persimmon. It had a clean and bitter aftertaste.
M: It was watery with lots of carbonation. Fizzy body.
D: This was similar to the DFH ancient ales - interesting concept that ends up being a subpar drink. The scent and taste and body were all less than desirable. The finish was mellow enough, but that didn't make this too much easier to drink. Not recommended.

22 oz bottle poured into a schooner glass

A- dark yellow to gold with a small white head that disappears quickly. no lacing left behind

S- sweet malts with a strong fruity aroma that follows

T- very fruity in initial taste with a few malts in the background

M- dry with a light body and medium carbonation.

O- I purchased this beer because of the use of the "fossil" yeast from the whale bones. I didn't know what to expect when I bought this but got about what i expected. This beer, overall, is average and nothing special to write home about. I am more than happy to say that I tried the beer with the "fossil" yeast but would not buy this particular beer again. nothing complex about the beer just an average beer that didn't stand out to me.

Interesting beer. Described as an amber ale, which it was somewhat in appearance, but it tasted much lighter, in a good way. Dryer than expected, nice Belgian notes.
