Chocolate Chili Stout
This imperial stout is a tribute to a 500 year old fermented beverage prized by the Aztec culture; served only to the victors of battle! Coco Caliente is a rich stout, being both bold and smooth, and possessing a robust body. In addition to cacao nibs, two different varieties of chilis were added to create a graceful dance of subtle, chocolaty notes, and a lingering spicy heat. Light up your soul and your taste buds with the fire of Coco Caliente!

Decent head production, but it quickly fizzles out to nothing.
Chocolate and chili pepper on the nose, along with more traditional stout notes of prune and molasses.
Surprisingly thin on the palate, but not too thin for the ABV.
Flavor is a pale reflection of the nose. The peppers are weak and add very little heat at all; the chocolate is present, but it's not supported by the rich malt base you might expect. There's nothing bad about the profile, but it's weak, lacks impact, and somehow borders on cloying despite not being all that sweet.
This is a beer that isn't bad, but it really needs something: a more expressive, richer malt base; vanilla; coffee; just something. As it stands, I feel like I'm drinking potential.

L: Pours a mahogany, light brown liquid that forms a thick light khaki head, which dissipates at a moderate pace to leave behind a nice creamy retention, which some minimal lacing.
S: Aromas of roasted malts, chocolate, chilies, some char.
T: Flavor follows the smell. Roasted malts, rich chocolate, cacao nibs, hints of coffee and bitterness. The chilies and heat that were advertised on the can did not really shine through. A warm finish.
F: Medium bodied, moderate carbonation.
O: This is a solid Imperial Stout, not too high ABV, and very malty with some bitter aftertaste. Not a sweeter stout if that's your thing. Enjoyable, but certainly not anything special.
