a very hopped up pils here, all saaz i think, a little bit raw in appearance and refinement overall, but a light and enjoyable drink with somewhat more hops on the back half of it than is traditional, which i dig. kind of a watered down yellow color to it, a short airy white head, and a bit of haze, looks like a keller type. i smell the spicy saaz hops right away, a hint of wet mowed lawn and lime peel in there as well, and a simple, crackery malt base. the flavor is pretty bland on the front half actually, but it turns robust pretty quickly, with some old worldy character from the lager yeast, the spicy freshness of the hops, and a distinctive bitterness at the end. its just off dry, like it could have fermented down a touch more, which would improve the refreshment value a bit, but its still an easy drinker. light bodied, simple grist, lots of room for the saaz to do its thing. i liked this one pretty well, actually one of the better beers we had while we were in here. it could use a little bit of cleaning up around the edges, but the high dose of hops for the style makes this memorable.
