16 oz can into a tall Lager glass.
L: Pours deep mahogany brown with a soapy short-lived light tan fizzy head that goes to edge foam, light visible steady fine carbo, cola-like attenuation, no lacing.
S: Rich roasted caramelized malts, dark fruits, lightly floral, a hint of background smoke, a touch of brown bread.
T: Caramel malts, very lightly smokey toasted cereal grains, a touch of dark honey, light cocoa, fruity and gently sweet, some yeast at the absolute end of finish.
F: Lightly brisk cola feel with a mild center and a smooth clean medium-long finish.
O: An easy drinking dark Lager with a smooth, clean finish. Lightly fruity and gently toasty. It is very good in its style.

As the name says, this pours dark, but not pitch black. The head was fairly thick, but did dissipate fairly quickly. The nose is somewhat hard to describe. Itis somewhat sweet smelling. The taste has a nice smoked flavor to it, which is not in the nose at all. Delicious beer, and I will be getting more next time I'm in Wisconsin.

Another big thanks to Chaz and Grant for allowing me an opportunity to try this rare (in so many ways) beer from a small brewery. I'm honestly hoping it's not good* because its distribution is so small.

A -- Clear, chestnut brown color with a short tan head that thins a little too quickly.

S -- The aroma is extract-like sweet malts and some vague caramel and nuttiness. There's a sort of meat aroma with warmth that becomes a bit sour or rotten with more warmth.**

T -- Roasted malts up front, characteristic of Northern Bavarian dark beer more than Munich Dunkel. The roasted malts pretty much dominate the flavor all through the drink. Some light fruitiness in the finish that isn't distracting, but reminds me more of Porter than Schwarzbier or Dunkel.

M -- The mouthfeel is dry and spritzy with carbonation. Body is medium.

O -- I was really hoping for a nice Munich Dunkel because so few are made, but this beer is roasted malt dominant and is very close to Schwarzbier, if not for the light fruitiness. But the more I take in that character I wonder how much of it is from hops than fermentation.

* Honestly wish this was better. I have high hopes for this brewery.
** There's no canned-on or best by date on the can, so I can't determine if the beer is stale or brewed badly.

16 oz can straight from the brewery, poured into a Willi Becher. No abv info.

Appearance: Pours dark brown. Translucent when poured, looks like a porter with a touch more auburn in the glass. Small amount of tan head, probably more full on tap.

Smell: Roasted and caramel malts abound. Nothing astringent or offensive, smells fresh. A tiny bit of chocolate and espresso. A touch richer than I expected.

Taste: Very full and robust, moreso even than Sprecher Black Bavarian (a bit more caramel than that beer). No fruit tones, this is all roasted malt. No off flavors, no yeast flavors. Very nice.

Mouthfeel: Sticks around a bit longer than the Pilsner, but is still satisfying and refreshing. A touch thin, but I think that suits this style better than being a touch thick.

Overall: A really wonderful rendition of an Old World classic. Love that it's available in pint cans, wish it were more widely distributed. If you enjoy dark Lagers at all (or Porters or even single Stouts) put this on your list, maybe as a trade extra from someone in West Central Wisconsin.

Dark Lager pours a black color with a nice size tan head. There is a nice roasted malty aroma, with hints of coffee and choclates. The taste has a roasted flavor, with just hints of coffee and cholcate. Good full flavor, not watery and rather easy to drink. Overall a very solid Dunkel.

Clean dark brown color with a short tan creamy head with nice retention.

Nutty with some lightly roasted malt grains. Hint of cocoa.

Light toasted grain, nutty, mild earthy hops.

A bit crisp and quite clean. Slightly chalky finish.

A nice beer. A style that gets very little play here in the U.S. Very well made beer that I can easily have several of. Look forward to trying more brews from these folks.

Bought by my brother-in-law Peter! Thanks, bro.

A: deep copper-brown, clear, nice head that kept it almost the entire glass
S: deep roasted malt, chewy, good depth, full nose
T: deep roasted malt up front, a good all-around dunkles lager
M: roasted and good drinkability
