Picked up a couple mixed-pack of Double Take after I found it marked an astonishing 50% off at Safeway. I've never bought a 12-pack of anything in the last ten years for six bucks. Nothing had particularly caught my eye about it in the past, despite seeing the beer on grocery store shelves for a while now.
This pale pours from its whimsical logo bottle a pleasing golden color with an average fluffy white head. The bubbles retreat quickly to a ring that leaves a little lace.
Smells aren't too bad--definitely picking up sweet caramel malts. Maybe a little bit of grassy hops, but much less hopping than I'm used to from the NW pales that I usually drink. There is also something lightly metallic or artificial that I think I notice as the beer has warmed up a bit.
Unfortunately, that artificial note comes though on the flavor, too. It's mild, but it keeps me from thoroughly enjoying the beer. I actually like their caramel malty interpretation of the style to break up the predictability of many pale ales. There's just a hint of bittering hops at the end.
Feel is slick, with a medium body that compliments the sweetness and malts. In summary though, I don't plan to buy it again. It's plenty enjoyable at the price I bought it at, but its typical discount of a dollar or two less than excellent pales like Deschutes Mirror Pond or Sierra Nevada's Pale Ale isn't enough to tempt me again.

Poured from a longneck into a shaker pint. A moderate pour produces about 3/4 inch of frothy, white head, that reduces into a solid 1/8 inch layer of suds across the top, with some sticky lacing along the sides. The beer is a pale yellowish-orange, with about average carbonation and low haziness. It's a very attractive looking beer.
They don't skimp on the hops. I get lots of citrusy hops both in the aroma and taste. I also detect some quite distinct tea-like flavors, with a fairly robust malt background, with a sweetness that's just barely detectable. Citrus rind is especially noticeable in the aftertaste. There's a fair amount of complexity here, with each sip a little different than the last.
I was astounded at the low number of reviews for this beer. I live in Montana, and this brand has been on the shelves here for a few years now (but perhaps not the pale??). It's a very enjoyable pale ale. I don't believe I have tried too many of these east coast pales. This one strikes me as about as hoppy as any west coast ale, and is complex and balanced. ("This beer is made in...Neeewwww Yoooorrrrk?!!").
This is a nice break from those supremely yucky, macro wheat beers I've been trying to choke down. Skal!

Poured a honey caramel rather clear color with 1-to-2 fingers of khaki white head. Sporadic spots of foamy white lacing along the sides. Above average retention on the top on the way down.
Smelled mainly citrus hops with sour lemon coming through. Initially reminded me of lemon drop candy, although not as good. Also seems to be Cascade hops. Earthy, grassy hops. Buttery as well.
Tasted pretty much like the smell, which was also what I expected. That earthy, grainy, grassy hops. Buttery, lemon, honey and a bit of iced tea. Surprisingly a strong bite of alcohol.
Light-to-medium body. Thin texture. Average carbonation. Abrupt, bitter finish.
An OK pale ale. Nothing special about this beer.

The Pale Ale by Double Take is a decent beer. It is definitely an East Coast Pale Ale. The beer pours a slightly hazy golden color with very thin white head that is not leaving much lacing. The smell has a slight hint of bittering hops. The taste starts with a nice balance of crystal malt and bittering hops that give a slight citrus flare. Towards the end the bitterness creeps in to clean the pallet. The mouthfeel is lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it is a good east coast session pale ale.
