Prism is a new, ongoing series we created to reflect classic and experimental hop varietals through the form of dry-hopped saison. Three times a year we'll release cans and draft of a new Prism using a simple grist and a blend of saison yeast strains to create a platform for showcasing a different combination of hops.

Poured into a tulip.
The appearance was a bright murky yellow color with a small stifled white foamy cap of a head. Softly dissolved to leave some mild concave lace sliding with the sips. Some sticky lace around the top of my glass.
The aroma had a nice crisp lemony dry sweet breadiness rolling over some sweet grassy notes and keen peppercorn underneath.
The flavor was mildly malty sweet through some breadiness, grass, lemon and some gum slyly moving together nicely. Mild dry and sweet bready aftertaste.
The mouthfeel was between light and medium bodied with a good sessionability about it. Carbonation felt fine. ABV seemed as projected. Bready and lemony finish.
Overall, somewhat like drinking lemon bread with a touch of peppercorn. I'd come back to this.

This pours a straw-gold color with a top hat of glass white foam. Looks amazing. Smells great, with hints of cracked pepper and clove lingering behind a floral forward hop note. The body is peppery with some grain and a pleasing finish. Highly carbonated, with a rolling effervescence. Enjoyable throughout.

L: Poured from a tallboy can to a pint glass. Had a straw gold color and a hazy consistency. There was a half inch of foamy, somewhat long-lasting head. Average lacing.
S: A good aroma of hops, barnyard funk, citrus and tropical fruits.
T: Tasted of a decent amount of citrus fruit (lemon, in particular), a ton of the barnyard funk, some hops (not overpowering), light tropical fruit (mango), and spices (pepper, coriander). The hops definitely add something unique to the flavor here. They're not featured, but do play well with the funk and fruit. Sweet and tasty.
F: A well-carbonated beer with a surprisingly dry finish. Light-bodied.
O: A solidly made, very much enjoyable saison. A good beer for the summer months.

16oz can. Poured out a slightly cloudy, orange color with a huge foamy, off-white head of foam. It smelled of citrus, caramel and yeastiness. Citrusy with a subtle spicy bite. Nice toasted caramel backbone.

Look: Translucent straw gold with a thick white head. Very little activity. A pretty beer.
Smell: Light with bread sweetness on the attack. Notes of Belgian candies sugar, fresh cut grass, bubblegum, banana, lemon peel, clove, and a bit of hay funk. Clean.
Taste: Again, Bright and clean on the palate. Notes of whole wheat, Belgian candi sugar, clove, green banana, bubblegum, some light tangerine, lemon peel, dried hay, and funk.
Feel: Medium-light bodied. Effervescent carbonation. No bitterness. No alcohol. Off dry body to a bone dry finish.
Overall: A nice and easy drinking saison. It hits all the style wickets. Quenching yet dry. The flavors are complex and complimentary. Just a solid beer all around.

Can from The Beermongers, Amarillo/Wakatu version.
A mildly hazy light orange with a dense, off-white head that falls off to a ring leaving little lacing. The nose is bright, fruity, lemony, zippy with orange and lemon to go with the mildly spicy saison yeast. I can't say the Amarillo is a good fit here, making this more Belgian IPA-ish, rather than a saison, with notes of white pepper and bubblegum. The palate opens briskly carbonated, a little too much so, with fruit, spice and yeast, not entirely harmonious or refined with the bubblegum, , orange and pepper not working entirely well together. In addition, once the carbonation subsides, there's a yeasty, pasty feel to the palate which isn't something i associate with a good saison. Mildly sweet on the finish, this beer is a bit of a disappointment.
