awesome beer from these guys, neat find on draft! pinot noir barrel aged funky saison with blackberries and raspberries, somewhat wild to me, even lambic-esque a little bit in the nose, very mature either way, and nicely fruited without the berries dominating the rest of the drink, impressive, rustic, interesting. deep pink to rose red in color, some definite haziness to this but the color saturation is nice, short head on it but enough carbonation, a slightly slower pace to this than i expect from saison but its not a negative. the nose is very compelling, major wood maturity, more brett than acid, natural berry twang and some sweetness too, a rawness to the grain side, maybe unmalted wheat in it, well grounded by it, the fruit isnt overpowering either, like i can appreciate the red wine contribution from the barrel pretty easy, trace vanilla, spice, and tannins, all real good together, sour enough to make my mouth water, slightly musty in a good way. the berries are most prominent up front, obvious and blackberry and raspberry, but then also with some currant character and a lightly medicinal aspect which brings up the best of the funky yeast. i think the fruity red wine barrels is a lovely choice for this, works so well with both the berries and the ferment, and the acidity is right where it needs to be. this seems rather long aged to me, there might be a little oxidation in it, and its got some body too. a flavorful and somewhat old worldy brew to me, a real cool offering from these guys, who continue to impress me just about every time i am lucky enough to encounter one of their beers. would love to try this from the bottle as well at some point...
