Really cloudy murky reddish brown appearance.
Has at least a medium body with a pleasant amount of carbonation all adding up to a really nice feel.
Aroma is scotch, bourbon, toffee, brown sugar ,molasses , malt and a very mild fruit and spice element.
First noticeable part of the taste is how well the alcohol is hidden. Its not sweet and resembles scotch to my tastebuds but otherwise it resmemvles the aroma.
Cape may has become a safe bet purchase for me in NJ. At the least I enjoy there beer to finding them to be above average and well worth looking for

Im not one that typically enjoys a Barleywine type beer but man this one is excellent.
Look: Poured out of a growler that was about 1 1/2 weeks old. Good head and great dark looking beer.
Smell: You def get a whiff of the Bourbon and it stays with you throughout the whole glass.
Taste: Malt forward with coffee, toffee and fruit. Wine like with hints of fruit. The Bourbon really comes through.
Overall: This is an amazing beer and glad to be enjoying it as I bring in the new year. My first beer from Cape May and makes me want to visit there. 11% ABV so it will sneak up on you, but thats ok since its New Years.
New Jersey has got some really great beers and with this one its just getting better.

S: Fruit, dried fruit, spice and a trace of bourbon dominate the aroma. There are pine and vanilla aromas in the background.
L: pours chestnut brown with ruby highlights and streams of slowly rising bubbles under a 2" mousse-like foam cap that has low to moderate retention. A swirl of the glass reveals light legs.
T: malt, lightly seasoned with toffee, gives way to fruit and spice. The fruit hints at cherry and with the alcohol gives Boughs of Barley a slight wine character that is balanced by the bourbon. The spices include vanilla and a moderately high pine bitterness that pulls things together for a long lingering finish. Tannins from the oak keep the finish dry.
F: insanely creamy, full bodied to chewy and pleasantly warming.
O: This big, bold beer with complex and layered flavors.
