Conditioned on fresh and locally roasted coffee, cinnamon and Guajillo peppers, this has a grain bill of a variety of malts to provide a layered taste profile and smooth mouthfeel.

Two twelve ounce cans were emptied entirely into a clear glass liter mug for observation. The pours produced a little more tan foam than ideal, but the cans were at room temperature. The color of the brew is black coffee brown. There's more spiced coffee to the aroma than anything stouty. The spices are definitely peppery and cinnamony, maybe there's some nutmeg and/or allspice in there, too. Overall, the taste is almost equally contributed to by the spices, the coffee and the basic stout. Although there's certainly pepper within, this isn't close to being spicely hot. The black coffee character stands up to the spices and the roasted malt and hops of the stout base. The three; coffee, stout and spices, leave little room for nuances and there's no taste transitions to be had. Like the glass lacing, the mouthfeel is less than impressive, at best passable. Often coffee thins out the stout body, so that's not a major compliant. A little more heat probably would make this more enjoyable to those that like pepper beers. The spices could be toned down just a bit, so the coffee stout could be better appreciated. Still, it's more of a thumbs up than down.

On tap at The Ram in Perkasie, PA

Arrived in a goblet glass. A jet black color, zero light showing through. A thin beige skim of a head.

Distinct coffee aroma.

A delicous stout. Coffee is the predominant flavor with deep roasted malts, cinnamon and dark chocolate. A touch of sweetness, some light peppery taste and a mildly bitter aftertaste. The ABV isn't noticeable.

Rich, creamy consistency with light carbonation.

Overall, a top-notch stout. A delicous combination of flavors. Well done...cheers!

Poured from a 12 ounce can, the body is jet black with a small head. No lacing.

Aroma is a delightful mix of coffee, chocolate, cinnamon and hot pepper.

Taste substantially follows nose. Coffee stands out, and the mix reminds me of Stone Xocoveza. I prefer this beer over last year's Stone release: better flavors from coffee and pepper.

Mouthfeel is good with solid carbonation.

I have been drinking this right outta da can, so I didn't even know what it looked like. It's a beautiful stout color with a beautiful stout head. I like a beer where you can taste everything that is in it. I like a Mexican cocoa now and then, and this tastes like a stout beer version of that. It's cinnamon and cocoa forward followed by coffee and some of the pepper. Now, I am a hot pepper guy, but I don't want that in my beer and the pepper is well placed in the background.
I really enjoyed the one I just drank.

From a 12oz can dated 10/18/23 into a pint glass.

Pours an opaque black with about one finger of tan head. Not very good retention or lacing.

Nice solid aromas of coffee, cocoa, chocolate and cinnamon.

Taste follows with cinnamon and coffee in the lead. Feel some pepper heat in there too.

Medium bodied mouthfeel. Spicy, bitter aftertaste. Low to medium carbonation.

Very nice beer. And at several $ less per 6er than Xocoveza, a suitable replacement.

Beautiful looking beer, darkest of browns; a gorgeous dense creamy light brown head forms, substantial lacing and thick bubble islands dot the surface, a very good looking beer. Swirling rouses a thick cap again instantly.

Nose is all has everything that is advertised but what wows me is the balance of it all; it’s cocoa like chocolate, subtle cinnamon, coffee and roast in background; the peppers come out lightly and more as pepper like to me.

The taste is rich and balanced too; big on rich cocoa like chocolate; cinnamon and touch of pepper, coffee more present as just a dark bitter bite on the finish.

Luscious is the first word that comes to mind for mouthfeel; it’s creamy and full so smooth on carbonation, goes down like a rich hot chocolate to me; there is a nice bitterness on the finish, clean; the pepper just adds this really pleasant warming in the back of the throat…no sweetness, more perceived from the flavors and luscious vibes on this beer.

12oz can into a pint glass. Canned 10/11/23, so a couple months old.

Standard stout look, black body, small light tan head, dripping rings of lacing initially. Cinnamon spice and coffee aroma. On tasting, dry coffee, mixed and well balanced spice notes, and an underlying sweetness. The finish, though with the spices, is mostly slightly bitter coffee. On the whole, a decent stab at a mexican style stout, though it's no Xocoveza.

12oz can purchased from the fridge as a single for $3.50. Born 101823, so this beer is almost two months old. I chilled this in the fridge for only 45 minutes before serving.

Look: Pours a very dark, almost black color. I can see a dark brown root beer color at the base of the glass. There was a finger of dark brown head that dissipated to a thin layer.

Smell: The aroma is very nice. As the name suggests, it smells like delicious Mexican chocolate with the combination of cinnamon and cocoa. There is a nice, roasty coffee aroma on the finish as well. I detect a bit of subtle fruitiness; I'm not sure if this is from the guajillo peppers. Soft vanilla notes as well, I think as the result of everything working in concert.

Taste: Similar to Stone's Xocoveza, this tastes a lot sweeter on the palate than I was expecting. I think that cinnamon has a high perceived sweetness; I recently had a cinnamon/black tea blend without any sugar or milk added that tasted super sweet. I cannot taste the guajillo peppers. The flavors work well together - cinnamon, chocolate and roasty notes from the malts, and a bitter coffee finish. I like the Mexican coffee/chocolate flavors with the cinnamon, guajillo peppers, coffee, and cocoa notes.

Feel: The mouthfeel is nice. It's on the higher side of medium bodied. To me, the mouthfeel is a bit cloyingly sweet as I have indicated with the high perception of sweetness from the cinnamon. It's nicely carbonated though.

Overall: It's tasty. I just think that it comes off a bit too sweet for my taste. I would prefer if they would dial back the cinnamon a bit, because I think that is where the sweetness is coming from. I don't like this as much as Xocoveza, but it's a pretty good attempt from a local brewery. This could be a nice breakfast or dessert beer.

From the can:
Our Mexican Coffee Stout has a satisfyingly complex grain bill comprised of a variety of different malts, yielding a rich and layered profile with a silky smooth mouthfeel and a firm cocoa-like bitterness. Conditioned on fresh and locally-roasted coffee, cinnamon, and guajillo peppers, Mexican Coffee Stout lands perfectly balanced amongst the cofee, spice, and rich stout base.
