Poured from a twelve ounce can, this stout is a coffee black with small initial head. Not much lacing.
Aroma is a delightful roasted coffee. When poured, there's a pleasant waft of malty sweetness.
Taste follows nose and adds a good malty char which complements the coffee flavor. Not much hop presence, but the char-coffee combination is more than enough to carry the beer.
Mouthfeel is a bit thin for a stout, but taste again makes up for the thinness. Carbonation is low. Easy drinking and smooth.

On tap at The Spot in TR, pint serving.
Crude oil black colored body covered with a tan cap. Nice lacing rings.
It smells like fresh rich roasted coffee. There’s a wood barrel note along with barely their chocolate, too.
Black coffee flavor with roasted malts and a touch of char. It has breakfast blend quality like a touch of sugar.
Medium body, not too heavy. Bittersweet mix.
I’ll get a six-pack!

A dessert beer or a rousing breakfast stout - cheers to Cape May, as this is one of the best at a firm but not overwhelming 6.5% ABV
a) perfectly presented lace and head over black body.
s) Chocolatey coffee with wood smoke rising.
t) Follows smell, adds some wood shop and sawdust.
f) Mid weight, clean, finishes semi-sweet, so great food beer.
o) Doesnt make the mistakes of sweetness or off-coffee or chocolate flavors, so one of the best

12 oz can. Pours black with tall, long lasting, creamy, brown head and nice lacing. Aroma is of toasted malt, coffee, dark fruit, chocolate, graham crackers and piney hops. Body is full, creamy and smooth. Taste is of roasted grain, toasted malt, coffee, chocolate, brown sugar, dark fruit, graham crackers and earthy hops. Finish is sweet at the beginning then becomes dry. Very good brew.

Dark brown, like black coffee, with a thick, light brown head.
The aroma is oddly, unpleasantly metallic. As it warms the metallic aroma fades and the coffee aroma comes out.
[Edit: I tried two more cans, and one had only a faint metallic aroma, while the other had no metallic aroma at all. So I bumped up the Smell rating up, as it seems to be more a QC issue rather than intended.]
It tastes of black coffee, with a little bit of the roast character of the stout coming through and a moderate bitterness. As it warms, the bitterness becomes more pronounced.
Overall, it's okay, but there are better coffee stouts out there. Trying it by itself, I thought it was good. But then I tried it side by side with another coffee beer, Schlafly's Coffee Stout, and Cape May's really paled by comparison. Schlafly's had a much stronger, more pronounced coffee aroma, with none of the unpleasant metallic notes. Schlafly's had a much richer, sweeter, more robust coffee flavour amplified by the roasted notes of the stout. I hate to find fault in Cape May's Coffee Stout for failing to measure up to Schlafly's, but it completely failed to measure up to Schlafly's (except for appearance, where Cape May's was clearly better).

Carbonation is more than expected but it has a creamy thick feel that balances it out. Thickness coats the tongue and lingers in a pleasant way
Aroma is really strong dark roasted coffee beans, espresso, very dark chocolate, earthy, mild wood, roasted malt, and some sweet dark fruit.
Taste is bitter strong espresso along with bakers chocolate. Earthy, wood, and initial coffee bitterness really take over. Theres some dark fruit and cream on the end.
Overall a really excellent coffee stout thats doesnt get cheap with the coffee. Would go as far as saying its one of my favorite beers I've tried in a while

Pours a viscous black color. A creamy tan head retains well.
Inviting aromas of coffee, creamy milk chocolate, nutty and dark toasted malts.
Nutty and roasty malt flavors well supplemented by coffee adjuncts. Well balanced with bittersweet notes of dark chocolate, roasted malts, sweet creamy malts and earthy and woodsy hops; overall nice balance of bitter and sweet. The finish is smooth and creamy with some dryness to it.
Full bodied with a creamy and mouth coating feel. The carbonation is gentle.
Ultra smooth and utterly solid stout. Nice creamy feel and tasty coffee flavors. I would have it again.

Was looking for a coffee stout, this and one other brand were the only options at my local liquor store. I've had a few coffee stouts elsewhere in the states so I was expecting something that would hit that craving.
L: It is a stout. Light barely passes through the black liquid. Once the head dissipates, there is a perfect reflection off the top of the beer.
S: Strong coffee, a little vanilla and chocolate, the malt is a little too powerful in my opinion.
T: Coffee, a little bit of vanilla/caramel/sweetener. Cream soda. The roasted malt taste is just a little overpowering as with the smell.
M: creamy soda mmm, very carbonated and it is distinguishing.
O: One of the two coffee stout brands available near me and this did not disappoint my craving. Would gladly buy this again and I find myself eager to try that bitter, sweet carbonated goodness. It could definitely be more balanced in its smell and taste, but it did grow on me. This is a great beer.

Picked this up at ShopRite Liquors recently, as I've liked the few Cape May beers that I've had recently. For something dark, and light in body, this was fine but it needed more of a robust flavor profile to stand out to me. It was serviceable enough to end the night on but needed a chaser of water to fully get down after I had finished it off!
Quite a dark, coffee pour to this as it had a big, fluffy tan head to top it off. That quietly settled down as there was a decent amount of soapy lacing left behind along the bottom half of my pint glass. A good amount of coffee was in the aroma, along with some vanilla, licorice, dark chocolate, and roasted malt as the taste was quite smooth, slick, and somewhat dry in the back. A bit of espresso bean emerged once this fully warmed up as some dark, spiced bread entered the fray as well. Enough carbonation was in this to be on par with the flavors as this was quite easy to quaff...
Hard to feel the alcohol on this as it almost felt like a session beer. Dated 10/26 on the bottom (actually, a "Born on" date), this felt and tasted like a fresh-brewed cup minus the scalding hot part. Worth a go once for breakfast, or as a nightcap as was the case here!

a: silky dark black color. poured a large, 3 finger beautiful deep, dark tan head
s: sweet rich dark caramel. bitter toasted malts, fresh coffee beans. a touch of licorice, and a hint of generic earthy hops. a little cola. there's something like oak or woody in here. a touch of brown sugar and molasses at the end
t: sweet caramel and cola. some roasted coffee beans behind that that lend a bit of bitterness. a touch of roasted malts in here as well. some sweet molasses and more roasted malts at the end
m: lighter side of medium with fairly strong carbonation. a bit light in the mouthfeel
o: a serviceable coffee stout, but it lacks in body and could use a bit more boldness out of the flavors. easy to drink though, and worth trying a can or two

Sampled in November 2020 from 12oz can in pint glass. "Born" date of 10/13/2020 was on the can.
Appearance: Pitch black, dark color, with a thin dark tan head. The head lasted a moderate time, and left a little lacing on the glass, but not a lot.
Smell: There is a strong coffee aroma detected as soon as the can was opened. Also some roasted malt and some spice and hops bitterness aromas. Nice combination between the various aromas, but the coffee aroma dominates.
Taste: Full-bodied with nice balance of malt and coffee, but again the coffee flavors dominate. There is a hint of sweetness and caramel flavors that may be due to the malts, but it is balanced nicely with a little bitterness from hops. Overall it has a good taste. The combination of strong coffee and roasted malts flavors give this drink powerful flavors.
Mouthfeel: Full-bodied, but very smooth. Very creamy. Moderate alcohol which matches with the 6.5% on the label.
Overall: Overall, this is a very good beer, and a good coffee stout. I will buy it again.
