Gooey and decadent chocolate-covered strawberries were the inspiration behind this sweet and luxurious little number. Brewed with a delicate touch of Midnight Wheat, a generous helping of sweet milk sugars, then conditioned on a plentiful serving of strawberry juice and enough Madagascar vanilla beans to make your mouth water, Chocolate-Covered Strawberry Milkshake IPA is dessert in a can.

Picked this up recently at the Bottle King in Morris Plains, as I hadn't been there in quite some time. Not the biggest fan of Cape May's beers but their recent efforts are better than what I had from them years ago and this sounded intriguing enough. As the previous reviewer stated, this was not a Stout and didn't look or feel like one but at the same time, I expected this to more along the lines of something from Tired Hands. This wasn't like their Milkshake IPA's either as this seemed to be a typical IPA with extra flavors for good measure.

Interesting pour to this as the liquid had a mahogany-brownish hue to it that resembled chocolate with some strawberries thrown in for good measure. A spongy, tan head topped this off as the lacing left behind was spotty, scattered, and quite sparse. Loads of tart strawberry in the nose, with a bit of milk chocolate, strawberry patch funkiness, and a bit of wheat underneath that as the taste had all of those in about the same proportion. I couldn't detect the lactose in this and had there been more, this might have been an exceptional brew but as it was, the milk sugars were only felt on my lips as they were quite sticky after each sip. A bit of maraschino cherry and malt rounded out the flavor profile but in the end, this was a beer that was a bit odd and not quite like the dessert that I was anticipating.

The booze was here but it wasn't a deterrent and the carbonation was quite light and nearly unnoticeable as well. Canned on 2/2, this was fresh but the age and condition of the liquid wasn't it's drawback. This was fun to try but probably needs a redo before it's next release. The label and description weren't quite in alignment with the liquid inside of the can.

I went 3.75 across the board because quite frankly I expected something way different - Probably my fault as it’s an IPA and not a stout -
Anyways you make your call -
I love Cape May brews but won’t be getting this again .
