Picked this up at Joe Canal's recently after having the other iteration of this not too long ago, as I had no idea that both breweries released their own take on this! This was much lighter in tone and taste than the other one was but it was still an enjoyable brew that wasn't quite like anything I ever had before, as it reminded me of an IPL more than an IPA.
This poured like cider as it was a hazy gold with a moderate, bubbly head topping it off. That settled quickly as there wasn't any lacing left behind once I started to work my way through this. Lots of Pilsner Malt and soft tropical fruit were in the nose as the taste was a bit dry, somewhat exotic, and very crisp. The hops were present, but not strong, as this has some blueberry, gooseberry, strawberry, and deep tangerine in the taste once this fully warmed up. A bit slick and somewhat more sticky, this finished as crisp as a lager without being overly carbonated, as there was plenty of body that was more in line with an ale.
There wasn't a lot of booze in this as the aftertaste was reminiscent of an ESB, because of it's dry-hopped nature. Born on 1/20, this was a fun beer that complemented Workhorse's take nicely as they had a few underlying themes in common. Cape May's gotten better in recent years and this was a fun example why - down to the artful label and description on it. Get both takes of this and hope for more collaborations in the future!
