Good looking black brew, with excellent head retention. The nose implies chocolate and roasted malt.
On the palate, the chocolate comes through easily, with both bitter, powdery Baker's chocolate and some milk chocolate sweetness. The datil pepper, unfortunately, comes very late and mild to the party, with a slightly vegetal edge throughout the sip.
Pepper stouts can be excellent when done correctly. This one is underwhelming; there's virtually nothing added by the peppers. Still a very enjoyable beer, however, due primarily to the chocolate influence.
