Had on tap. Is a trip to BSP complete without trying this one? Murky yellow body, full white head with giant lacing. Smell has big saison yeast with honey, white pepper, floral hops and mild citrus. Taste is more pale than the nose let on with more bitter grass joining the flowers, still airy yet bready paler yeast offering notes of white pepper, lemon ester, honeycomb and dry earth. Feel is very light and pale, airy and soft before the sharp finish, but almost needs more body as a saison to me

smooth as a mountains stream. Listed as a saison but doesn't have any of the bitterness sometimes associated with a saison and instead is very smooth. Does not live up to its pilsner color and for some that's a good thing

St. Bernardus Backsteen Winkel
A: pours a hazy gold with a smooth, creamy two finger head
S: has an earthy minerality to it right off, with some pleasant ester notes, no pepper, no hop presence and no spice
T: more of a Belgian pale ale right off, a very soft delicate flavor, with very prominent wheat notes, and some subtle herbs and citrus.
M: nowhere near dry enough to be a saison, medium body
O: this beer is successful as a Belgian Pale Ale, but it is not a saison. With that in mind it is far better than extra 4.

Really great - fuller bodied, touch of sweetness, incredibly approachable.

Poured a cloudy, yellow body with good head and lace patches. The aroma is hearty with yeast and fruit notes with some minor funk. The body is full and filling thanks to a strong yeast presence with hints of candi sugar and fruity sweetness (not quite tropical) with a clean finish although a touch of funk adds a little kick to the beer.
