St. Bernardus Tripel is a traditional abbey beer that follows the classic tripel style. In the Watou region a tripel is often referred to as a ‘Bernadetje’. A fine tribute that pays homage to Bernadette, the youngest daughter of Evariste Deconinck, the man to whom the monks of Abbaye Sainte Marie du Mont des Cats sold their Belgian property in 1934.

Deep gold body, dulled by unfiltered haze, with a thick, steady, frothy, off-white head.
The nose carries plenty of umami yeast notes, with banana, spice, custard.
Spice comes to the fore on the palate, with bitter spice hop character building to the cleansing dry finish - surprisingly devoid of sweetness for the style, and hiding the alcohol very well; the body is medium/light with medium/light carbonation, combining for a soft yet lightly crisp feel;
The dryness and distinct spice character keep you craving another sip, this must be one of the easiest drinking tripel's I've tried. Not overly complex, but such a pleasure to drink.

What's not to like about it?
Believe it or not, this amazing tripel has flavors of many types of fruits and even hints of olives in it. Something i never tasted in a beer before but i like it! It is petfectly balanced and while drinking one wonders where is a store to get some more.

Copenhagen 3/3 2018. 33 cl bottle from Ølhandleren in Hørning (web-shop). St. Bernanardus design with green background and the usual happy monk enjoying a beer.
Pours hazy golden with a very big bubbly head. Settles as a 1,5 cm thick layer of foam. No lacing to speak of.
Aroma is intense and sweetish. Banana, citrus and light humid basement aroma. Sharper notes rumbling in the background. A little boozy.
Prickly and medium strong carbonation and slightly thick texture.
Flavor has good balance between medium sweetness and medium bitterness. Aftertaste is strong and spicy. Lingering.
Nice and characteristic Tripel.

Best by October 2026? Poured from a 750mL caged-and-corked bottle into a Unibroue tulip.
Cloudy mustard body supports a fat fist of crenellated stiff peaks; rocky lacing, superior retention.
Sweet, malty, phenolic aroma - well balanced with orange blossom, honey, and pepper.
Rich hearth wheat bread flavor spread with honey and orange marmalade. Bitter-sweet with faint alfalfa and a floral/earthy, medium-dry finish. Subtle but signature yeast notes. Superb balance.
Creamy, fully carbonated, gently warming, with well concealed alcohol.
One of the best examples of the style.

Golden colour with a minimal haze. White, finely bubbled, high and very persistent head. Although there is no typical lacing, there are still plenty of foamy decorations on the glass. The aroma is malty and sweet, with fruity and spicy notes, as well as yeast, cellar and even earthy accents. The smell can easily be described as Belgian. The taste is delicate, with malty sweetness and distinct hop bitterness. It may not be very high, but it is the "backbone" of the flavour. The alcohol is treacherously hidden. The carbonation is high, which I personally find bothersome. The body is medium plus. The texture is smooth. The aftertaste is long and dry with a fruity, spicy and yeasty background.

Pours a hazy amber color with a long lived run-away head and heavy lacing,
Smells and tastes of malt, bready yeast, apples and cloves with a hoppy lightly bitter finish.
Medium light body and carbonation. Lightly dry mouthfeel.
This brew is a nuanced aromatic and flavorful tour de force.
