Collaboration with The Full Pint.
This Brut IPA is so friggin’ clear, so unbelievably crisp, and so extremely dry that we could only name it one thing, BRUT AF. Brewed in collaboration with The Full PInt to celebrate their 11th Anniversary of bringing us craft beer news and weekly podcast. Please visit thefullpint.com.
Brut AF is vibrant and elegant. The aroma presents fresh, warm crumpets lathered in tangerine marmalade to your olfactory. A hint of nelson should be apparent, bringing sauvignon blanc to mind. Subtle floral notes dance in the background, bright citrus forefront, grapefruit. This quickly transitions to bitterness accentuated by extreme dryness, however this is quick to leave the palate and leave one yearning for another hit. Soft pilsner malt pokes through.
Hops – Nelson, Amarillo, Centennial, Citra, Mosaic
Malts – Pilsner all the way

Type: 16-oz. can
Glass: Clear 16.5-oz. Belgian ale tulip
From: Bine & Vine Bottle Shop in Normal Heights (San Diego), Calif.
Price: $5.39 (because of 10 percent off for a variety 6-pack)
Purchased: Aug. 17, 2018
Consumed: Aug. 18, 2018
Reviewed as: Brut Style
Misc.: Collaboration with The Full Pint; Canned on Aug. 10, 2018
Picked this up on a trip to Bine & Vine, along with five others for the 10 percent off. A big fan of both El Segundo and Brut IPAs, so was looking forward to this one. Had tried maybe four or five Brut IPAs, but this would be my first time reviewing one. Can called it a, “Brut IPA brewed with Nelson, Amarillo, Centennial, Citra & Mosaic.” Nice.
Poured a gold-to-light amber clear color with 1-to-2 fingers of off-white frothy head, which thinned out rather quickly. Lots of bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass, especially in the middle, where it was coming at a faster speed. Good watery lacing. Good retention. (Sight - 3.75)
Smelled almost all those hops. Damn. In order got Amarillo, Nelson, Citra and Mosaic. Not much Centennial at first whiff. Also orange, tangerine, grapefruit, white grape, cough drop, lime, lemon zest and nectarine. Seemed boozier than 6.9 pct. From the can got Amarillo, Nelson and tons of Pilsner malt. (Smell - 4.00)
Tasted almost as good as the nose. Earthy pilsner malt really came out in the taste. Also got Nelson, Amarillo, dry Centennial, grapefruit, bitter tangerine peel, orange, lime, white grape, herbal, cough drop, lemon zest, Citra and green leaf. (Taste - 3.75)
Medium body. Oily texture. Average-to-lively carbonation. Dry, bitter finish. (Feel - 4.00)
Not my favorite Brut, but really, really good. Outstanding actually. (Overall - 4.00)
