Collaboration with Kern River.

You’d think floatin’ down the river on an inner tube with a cold one in your hand would be easy right? For most, yes. But hey, we all have our moments and sometimes we take the plunge. As long as you’re with good company like our friends at Kern River Brewing, you’ll only be a River Rookie to them.
Hops: Simcoe, Centennial, Citra, Nelson, Amarillo

Type: 16-oz. can
Reviewed as: American IPA
Glass: Melvin 14-oz. Spiegelau IPA glass
Price: $3.79
From: Windmill Farms in San Diego (Del Cerro), Calif.
Purchased: Sept. 21, 2022
Consumed: Oct. 6, 2022
Misc.: Collaboration with Kern River; Canned on Sept. 7, 2022

Went to Windmill Farms specifically for Dino Park, a collab between Toppling Goliath and North Park. Unfortunately it wasn’t there so instead I bought 12 singles and a 6-pack of Aurora Hoppyalis. El Segundo’s website described this as “You’d think floatin’ down the river on an inner tube with a cold one in your hand would be easy right? For most, yes. But hey, we all have our moments and sometimes we take the plunge. As long as you’re with good company like our friends at Kern River Brewing, you’ll only be a River Rookie to them.” Mentioned hops were Simcoe, Centennial, Citra, Nelson and Amarillo.

Poured a medium yellow clear color with three fingers of frothy white head. Could see a few bubbles coming up from the bottom and sides of the glass. Average watery lacing. Decent retention. (Sight - 3.75)

The Simcoe, Nelson and Amarillo jumped out to me out of the five mentioned hops. Specifically tangerine, orange rind, peach, papaya, pine, pineapple, grapefruit, strawberry, sugary orange candy and dry grass. Got Citra coming in there as well. Got a little better each whiff. Not as good from the can. (Smell - 4.00)

Taste was not quite as good as the nose. In order got Simcoe, black pepper, garlic, onion, resin, dank pine, aspirin, orange rind, tangerine, Amarillo, peach, grapefruit, Nelson, viney berry, Citra, caramel and dry peach skin. (Taste - 4.00)

Medium body. Oily texture. Soft carbonation. Clean, bitter finish. (Feel - 4.25)

I liked this one. Grew on me a little each sip. Outstanding. (Overall - 4.00)

Can poured into a Mountain Rambler Brewery pint glass

A: Pours faintly hazy golden yellow with a frothy off white head that settles to a thin layer and leaves a little spotty lacing.

S: Citrus pulp, a bit grassy, light tropical, exotic, and stone fruit, a touch of pine, crackery malt, and a touch of caramel sweetness.

T: Pretty grassy, citrus, grapefruit, lemon, and a hint of orange, underlying tropical, exotic, and stone fruit, mango, pineapple, gooseberry, passion fruit, lychee, apricot, peach, and white grape resinous pine, floral notes, slight spicy herbal notes, crackery malt, and a little caramel sweetness.

M: Medium body, moderate carbonation.

O: Lots of good flavors hidden in there once you get past the grassy stuff. My can wasn't the freshest so I'm gonna give it the benefit of the doubt.

A sunny day, but alone. A cloudy day, but earlier tempers may have been heated. River Rookie is all West Coast, but I can’t say that it shines. Like Kim K, of course I would take it over a lot of other options, but unlike James Cagney - it is not public enemy number one. Maybe it’s a guy that committed a bit of mail fraud here and there and hasn’t been caught. River rookie is on that level.

Tuck me in because I want to to say Goodnight.
