8oz glass at Beer Revolution YEG Oliver Square - this is a collaboration with Norsemen Brewing out of Camrose. A dry hopped Saison.
This beer appears a murky, medium apricot yellow colour, with one finger of puffy, finely foamy, and somewhat creamy off-white head, which leaves some dissolving iceberg profile lace around the glass as things slowly progress.
It smells of gritty and grainy cereal malt, muddled domestic citrus rind, a gently phenolic yeastiness, and some plain earthy, musty, and floral noble hop bitters. The taste is bready and crackery pale malt, musty yeast, muted orange and red grapefruit flesh, weak flinty notes, and more leafy, weedy, and floral green hoppiness.
The carbonation is fairly tepid in its anemic frothiness, the body a decent middleweight, and generally smooth, with just a touch of yeasty intransigence making a dent in the surface sheen here. It finishes off-dry, the Alberta malt reasserting its authoritah!
Overall - this seems very much like a blend of Saison and an NEIPA. I'm getting the latter's chewiness with the former's yeast quotient, and it mostly works. It's nice to see more and more breweries around the province coming together to create weird new stuff - keep it up!

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
