12 ounce bottle into a snifter. Bottled 11/5/18, had 3/10/19.
Pours a cola color, somewhat opaque, with a half inch foamy head and a decent amount of foamy lacing. Aromas of chocolate, vanilla, malt, light whiskey, coffee, oak, light caramel, some char. The flavor is not as good as the aroma. Coffee, vanilla, malt, oak, cocoa, some chocolate and caramel, faint whiskey. There’s an odd bitterness to this, and it’s not a good bitterness. And it’s a negative. A little harsh, a decent medium body that feels too light, well carbonated.
Part of GB’s Advent Calendar, and I’m glad I got to try it. Really good aroma. Don’t feel like barrel aging helped the base beer, resulting in a light feel and the flavor lacking intensity. That weird bitterness really brought this one down for me. Maybe I’ll like the next batch better.
