12 ounce bottle into a snifter. Bottled 11/9/15, reviewing my third bottle from 5/23/16.

Pours a bright, cloudy orange, with a small head and not much lacing. Smells of citrus hops- orange, grapefruit, malt, bourbon, some oak, brown sugar. Taste still leads with the citrus hops, but more general fruitiness than specific, bourbon, malt, oak, some caramel. A medium amount of bitterness throughout. Smooth, good body, well carbonated, the taste lingers.

Well blended, the bourbon is prominent but not overbearing. Lots of flavor, the hops still shine 6 months down the road. Well worth a purchase, the next time it comes around at the Greenbush Annex.

One of the best BA IPA's I have ever had! Super well balanced between the hops and bourbon. I would put this one up against Doom as two of the gold standards for the style of BA IPA

On tap at 'The Annex' upon its release and served in their signature snifter.

Look- A cloudy burnt orange with a creamy half finger of off white foam.

Smell- A faint bit of orange zest and a little malt/yeast. Pretty tame for a big beer.

Taste- Biting grapefruit flavor up front, with a little orange peel. Some barrel flavor is in there fighting to get through the strong hop presence. It appears mostly in the form of heat.

Feel- Creamy, slick and oily with a bitter hop bite. There is a moderate alcohol burn in the finish.

Overall- This is a style that can be tricky in a barrel at times. I've had ones that were under carbonated booze bombs with no hop flavor, or hopped up versions with little to no barrel presence. This one seems to hit most of the notes quite well. I'm scratching my head at how the aroma can be so weak for a beer that's really strong in flavor? Perhaps served too cold? That aside, there's pretty big hop flavor, with a nice warming amount of heat. I yearned for more bourbon in the beginning, but in hindsight I think it would interfere with the hop flavor. In all, a very well done version of the style.
