On-tap at Greenbush. Served in a 6oz taster glass.
A - A finger of tan foam that has surprisingly good retention, and leaves behind splotchy lace as it slowly dissipates. Transparent dark copper-amber body.
S - Smoked meats, peat, hickory, campfire, and surprisingly low sweetness for a Scotch Ale.
T - The taste is a bit sweeter, with less overt smoke and more honey-glazed ham character. Alcohol is extremely well-hidden, as I was taken aback by the quoted 9.3%.
M - Creamy, chewy, medium-full body, with pleasant medium carbonation, and a lightly dry and smokey finish that coats the mouth and lingers.
D - I enjoyed this quite a bit, and was happy to taste a Scotch Ale that wasn't cloyingly sweet. The smoked malts integrate quite well with the other flavors, and the alcohol is deftly concealed. I hope this makes it out of the R&D stage and into regular production.
