330ml bottle, part of the recent Winter Character mix pack.

This beer pours a clear, medium golden amber hue, with two fingers of bubbly, frothy, and loosely foamy off-white head, which leaves a nice band of webbed tree line lace around the glass as it slowly subsides.

It smells of biscuity semi-sweet caramel malt, a touch of sour breadiness, a pleasantly muddled citrus and melon rind fruitiness, a mild hard water flintiness, and earthy, leafy noble hops. The taste is more of the same - peppy, crackery caramel malt, indistinct grocery aisle fruit, a persistent wet stony essence, and somewhat zingy leafy, grassy, and earthy hops.

The carbonation is light and generally sassy, the body a near medium weight for the style, and plainly smooth, with a hint of a flinty metallic edge. It finishes mostly dry, the biscuity graininess and the floral, grassy hops ruling the roost.

A pretty tasty and enjoyable ESB, all the standard points are hammered home, except perhaps for the lack of any tweaked ABV, this being Canada, and the basic 5.0 just doesn't cut it, even if you're trying to prove a point. Anyways, easy to drink, and a real session candidate, should this ever be sold in six-packs.

330ml bottle poured into pint glass 27/12/13

A clear golden yellow with bubbles of all sizes feeding a well sustained two fingers of foam that leaves some random lace on the way down

S some citrus, faint herbal notes, caramel, grainy, a hint of pennies, well balanced with lots of English hops and malt

T more of the same really but more herbal notes and caramel, not a bad bitter

M lighter side of medium, rather bitter, creams up from the bubbles, a little herbal spice on the finish

O not a bad bitter, plenty of flavor in something I could session, its a bitter, bitter and that suits me fine

I'll drink the other pair of these in my mixed pack no problems, might be better suited for summer then this brutal winter storm outside but what can you do?
