"SURF™ BLACK IPA STYE ALE
Our Signature beer, this American Style Dark Ale features vibrant citrusy and floral American hops balanced against a complex malt profile of toasty dark malts with a hint of roasted barley. Just like an early morning surf session, once you start you keep going back. Pairs well with grilled tri-tip.

Clear black colored ale with a tall tan colored head.
Smells of charred malt and phenol, slight smoke scent. Smells a bit herbal. No strong hop scent.
Starts out woody and bitter and quite dry. Patent malt and that is about it.
Mouthfeel is OK.
Overall, a boring ale.

Aroma: I get a strong scent of caramel and bourbon.
Appearance: Thick, tan head lingers for the entire glass. Nice black/brown translucent color, that glistens like obsidian.
Flavor: Extremely complex! Caramel, licorice, bourbon, coffee, chocolate, and maybe a touch of peanut butter? Wow, they go great together!
Mouthfeel: Medium to full body. Highly carbonated
Overall: One of my new favorites. I almost skipped this beer, since I live in San Diego. I didn't think a beer from Ventura could show me anything new, but I was very wrong. Looking forward to trying more beers by Surf Brewing.

Dark brown in the glass with a decent head. Nicely sudsy in the mouth. Thin body with some malty substance.
This is a pretty dank sort of IPA with the earthy and herbal flavor. Rather malty with some caramel and warm flavors. Quite bitter in the aftertaste. Dark grainy taste along with the leafy stuff.
Interesting brew, but on the sourish side of the burnt black malt spectrum. Reasonably drinkable. From the 22 oz bottle purchased in Santa Barbara.
