For my 5,000th review I figured it should be one I added to the BA database. So this is one from a recent trip to Colorado, a six-pack of 12 oz cans purchased at Wilbur's Total Beverage in Fort Collins. It sounded so good, described as a "Strawberry Rhubarb Saison" with French yeast and a collaboration with Fate Brewing and Elite Brands, whatever that means.
Poured into my favorite glass, a Het Kapittel Watou chalice. Hazy yellow brew with billow of whipped cream foam. Wonderful aroma that is pure rhubarb, but light and tinged with the lemony yeast. Creamy, sudsy mouthful of carbonation with an acidic bite.
Delicious fruity taste with the crunch of Belgian yeast. Dry finish and a pleasing bitter edge. Flavors of orange and a hint of passionfruit. I don't taste strawberry exactly, but the whole thing is a subtle and intriguing fruit salad with a mineral, bitter aftertaste. I'm looking forward to visiting Renegade next time in Denver.
